If you are running Outlook 2003 / 2007 please download this tool which will automatically setup your Outlook.
If you are intending to re-import your e-mail you will need to take a backup by going to File > Import & Export > Export to a File then chose Personal Folder (pst). Make sure you select the top level folder and tick the include subfolders checkbox. Make a note of the export location too.
